...
On the common
Not the small one
In the vastness of the open
From the beacons to the Black
It is where you find this sheep
A Welsh Mountain kind.
And at this time of year
with lamb
But forgotten to shear
The woolly coat hanging matted
Appearing as scraggy as a crag
Felting on summer
From a winter’s lag.
It stands in the mist
A look
Not of companion
And not of alone
A contentment
Just to belong
To carry on.
It walks to stand against
My mind
For it is
A Welsh Mountain kind.
